USB thumb drive – an all around tool July 25, 2007

Posted by edutechies in Tools.

USB drives are getting cheaper and bigger day by day. Everyone is using one as their mobile storage media. Throw away those floppy’s, Zips and CD-R’s get yourself a 2GB USB thumb drive to help with troubleshooting and support. They are one of the most useful and versitile tools in any kit. Not only can they hold a bunch of software troubleshooting items, but you can boot from them too! At the ACCC Micro Repair Office, we use them at our Res-Net and Wireless helpdesk otherwise know as ACCCeSS. There is a gambit of tools that you can stick on it. Here are some that we use:

Process Explorer for Windows – http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx

Toolbarcop – http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm

Winsockfix – http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml

And many many others. These programs along with your favorite Antivirus program, Spyware and Adware remover will help you resolve those pesky problems with slowness, filtered computers, zombies, and clear up the computer ailments.

Though to really clean the computer the best course of action is to reinstall….yea ouch~!
